Tooth whitening is a relatively simple, quick and safe method of improving the appearance of your teeth. Be it for an important upcoming event, a boost in self confidence or simply a well deserved treat for yourself, we can offer a range of services that can improve your smile!

How does it work?

There are two main methods of whitening that can be performed by your dentist. ‘In Office’ whitening is performed in the dental chair to provide an instant result. Here the dentist or hygienist will apply a protective gel to your gums, followed by a bleaching agent which is applied to your teeth and enhanced by a special blue light. This procedure takes at least 1 hour. The alternative method involves the fabrication of custom trays that will allow you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home, all at an affordable price.

How long does whitening last?

This really depends on the same factors that have caused the discolouration in the first place surface stains caused by tea/coffee, smoking, poor oral hygiene and age. The benefit of whitening is that after your initial whitening procedure, custom trays will be fabricated for you to take home so you can do top ups without going through the entire procedure again.

Is Whitening for everyone?

Whilst whitening is generally considered to be a safe procedure, your dentist needs to assess your dentition to ensure you are a candidate. These things include receding gums, existing sensitivity and existing restorations on front teeth (these will not whiten). Also some discolourations will whiten better than others – For example yellow-ish hued teeth will probably bleach well, brownish-coloured teeth may bleach less well, and grayish-hued teeth may not bleach well at all.
